I think that I accomplished a lot these past two weeks. We worked on a few different projects and had a lot of fun. The first project that I worked on was a word prompt for my sketch book. I picked the word jingoism and creates a brainstorming page and a design page in my sketchbook. I had some trouble at first brainstorming ideas for jingoism. The definition of jingoism is to stir up exaggerated patriotism. I came up with a few ideas but ended up making an eagle standing on the United States with the mottoes of America above it. I used markers, sharpie, crayons, colored pencils, and tissue paper to create this project.
The other project that I did in my sketch book was a zentangle. This project was a lot of fun and i really enjoyed doing. I will definitely do more zentangles. The patterns just came easily to me and the shells and sunflowers turned out beautifully. I just used a sharpie to make my project. The only problem was that you can see the pattern on the other sides of the sketchbook pages. Other than that it was a great project!
The big project we started this week was a sumi ink club project. We started out by covering a big piece of paper with a lot of designs using sumi ink. We had lots of fun filling up the paper with designs and patterns. Once we finished it looked great! The next part of the project was to take a piece of the sumi design and make something else out of it. The only guidelines we were given said that it had to have 1-3 other colors and you had to use the sumi piece as a part of it. This was where i ran into a few problems. I had trouble coming up with an idea, and when I did think of one I had to think of a new one. At first i was going to make a geometric background with parts of the sumi project and put a flower on top of it. Then i wanted to use a different background and things just got more complicated from there. Then i went on pinterest and found people using a paper weaving for their backgrounds. I really liked this idea so i decided to weave my sumi and some other pieces of water colored paper I painted for my background. I did not finish it this week but hopefully will next week!
