This week in art I finished my sumi ink project, continued my ways of seeing project, made our first artist research, and made more contour line drawings. I am very happy that I finished my sumi ink project. I had a few problems with getting the rose to stand out against my background, but I put it on a white backing and it looks great! I think that it will be shown at the concert under the stars next week! I had a lot of fun with this project, and I am very proud of it.
I also worked on my ways of seeing project. Along with my snowflake that i made out of a blind contour drawing of a candle stick, I made a horse and a book. I printed out some bigger versions of my candle stick blind contour, and will use those to make a bigger version of my candle stick horse. Then I will use the bigger version to make a final version of the project. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I will be able to put together my basic horse outline using the candlestick printouts, and start my final version of it.
My first sketchbook project was contour line drawings. I had to draw 20 contour line drawings of 5 different objects. The first object that I picked was a water bottle. We will be staring a new project soon that will be drawings of bottles, so I thought that this would be good practice. The next object that I picked was my watch. It had some fun designs on it that I had fun playing with. Then I drew a bottle of Elmer's rubber cement. Again, I thought this might be good practice for the bottle project. I drew a paint brush next. This was a more difficult object for me to draw. The last object was a bottle of paint. I drew plenty of bottles and learned a few new tricks with this project.
The last project I did was my artist research. I chose the artist Mary Heilmann. She was born in 1940. She makes abstract paintings, ceramics, and furniture. All of her works have a fun and playful feeling to them with plenty of colors. Most of them have geometric shapes, but are put together in a way that makes it seem very natural. Her art reminded me of the background of my sumi ink project. It has a weaving that reminds me of Heilmann's geometric patterns. It also has fun watercolors in the back that are not too serious like hers. I really like her and her works.
